Working with two places in the one document

You are trying to make your introduction and conclusion work well together. Wouldn't it be nice if you could work on both ends of the document at the same time. Well you can in Word 2002 (XP).

  • Open a second window: Choose Window, New Window, which opens a duplicate window of the document. Now you have two separate windows open of the same document, and you can switch back and forth via the task bar or the Window menu. And you can choose File/Save in either window to save all the changes you make in both windows; or

  • Split the screen: Choose Window/Split, and position the gray line where you want to split the screen. Then click the mouse. Now you have two windows on the same screen. Simply choose File/Save as usual to save your changes. This may also work in other versions of Word.

In StarOffice 5.2 you can also open two windows. To tile them simply choose Windows/Tile. In StarOffice 6.x and OpenOffice 1.x and later, you can open two windows, but you will have to tile them manually. Alternatively follow the procedure below.

In other word processors, including NewDeal Office, cut and paste the conclusion into a separate document and tile the two. Recombine the documents using Cut and Paste when finished.

When you have tiled the two windows, you may find the text too small to read. Zoom in using the View menu's controls or hold CTRL and use your mouse's scroll wheel.
