| Speed up those menus
Some of the visual effects in Windows XP may look good, but they can slow things down. Fading or sliding menus may look cool, but they are not speedy. To dump the fashion and bring back the speed, try this: Right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, and click the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button in the Performance area and select Adjust For Best Performance. Look through the list of effects and click on any that you wish to retain, such as shadows under desktop icons - these can make it easier to read the icon names - and click OK.
