If you're working with several open windows in Windows 98 and want to close them quickly, try a right click on the blank area of your task bar. Selecting Minimize All Windows will clear the screen in a flash, allowing you access to your desktop.

In Windows Me and XP, you can click on the Desktop button in the Quick Launch area of the taskbar to achieve the same result.
