| Use the keyboard, not the menu
There are times when it is quicker to use the keyboard rather than drop down a menu and make your selection from there. There are also times when the keyboard can be used, but there is no menu equivalent for you to use. This is particularly true of the Cut, Copy and Paste keyboard shortcuts. For example, you have downloaded a new program and the makers have email you a 25-digit serial number.
Highlight the number in the email, press CTRL+C (or use the Edit menu), then run setup for your new program. When it asks for the serial number, just press CTRL+V (there is no available menu at this point).
CTRL+X (cut), CTRL+C (copy) and CTRL+V (paste or insert) work right across Windows and almost all of its applications. Learn them - you never know when they will be useful.
