De-animate GIFs

If you're sick of the constant distraction from animated GIFs, put a stop to it. In IE 5 or 6, or browsers derived therefrom, go to Tools/Internet Options and click the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to the Multimedia section, deselect the Play Animations option, and click OK. From then on you'll see only the first frame of each animated GIF that loads.

In Netscape 6.x or 7.x and Mozilla, go to Edit/Preferences/Images and tick "Animated images should loop..." "Never".

Mozilla Firefox does not have a setting for changing the behaviour of animated GIFs.
