XP's CDRW burning software

Based on EasyCD, the writer in Windows XP can be used by simply dragging files to your CDRW drive from within Windows Explorer. However, that simple process cannot be used when you want to turn an image file into a usable CD disc. Nor can you copy disc to disc.

Most CDRW drives come with software that is more versatile than the bundled version in Windows XP. Learn to use it in preference to the bundled software and you will find it easy to do the more complex tasks.

If the software that came with your CDRW drive is outdated (e.g. not compatible with Windows XP), try the maker's website for an update, or try the advertising-supported Burn4Free from http://www.tucows.com/preview/355285.html.

Another approach is to patch XP's burning software with ISO Recorder, which adds the ability to copy disc to disc, and to burn ISO images into usable CDs. ISO Recorder Power Toy is a UI component that allows to use CD-Recording capabilities of Windows XP to record ISO images and copy CD to CD - a piece of functionality missing in Windows XP. The ISO Recorder itself does not record CDs but instead uses existing OS features. Some of the interfaces it uses are not fully documented by Microsoft and as such are subject to change in the future. This software works on Windows XP only . It was tested with the retail build of Windows XP (Home and Professional). It can be obtained from http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm.
