Fill cells easily

ExcelAutoFill option makes it easy to add series of numbers--dates, month names, and so on--into a worksheet. AutoFill copies formatting as well as the text, which also makes it a great option for one-step column headings. For instant months of the year, for example, type "January" in a cell, and format it as you like. Then click in the cell, hold your mouse pointer over the cross in the lower right corner, drag it horizontally until the ToolTip says "December," then release your mouse button.

You can use the same techique in a StarOffice and OpenOffice.org spreadsheets. Less Excel-compatible spreadsheets may require the use of the menus but can also autofill cells.
