No receipts

Spammers don't just want e-mail addresses. They want e-mail addresses that are active, that still have a living, breathing person behind the "@" sign. One way they hunt for the pulse is to send spams with a Read Receipt option. If accepted, this sends an immediate message back to spam HQ that the note was opened, putting you on the hot list for lots more spam.

You can turn off all receipts with the following steps in Outlook Express:

• Choose Tools, Internet Options.

• Click the Security tab.

• Choose the Restricted sites zone.

• Click the Receipts tab.

• Choose the Never send a read receipt option.

Eudora doesn't have a Never send a receipt option unless , but will ask you whether you want to send one now, later or never, whenever you receive a message that requests one. Choose Never unless you have good reason to send one.
