Bozo filters

One person annoys you, one company sends you too many "special offers", and you're just tired of seeing anything from that person or company. Don't boil, just block 'em. Here's how in Outlook Express:

  • Choose a message from the person or company.

  • Choose Message, Block Sender.

  • Click on Yes to remove all e-mail in your Inbox from that address.

From now on, all messages from that source will be sent right to the Deleted Items folder. Another popular name for this technique is "bozo filter."

In Eudora you need to create a filter to transfer messages from that person to the Trash.

  • Choose a message from the person.

  • Click on Special/Make filter.

  • Eudora will automatically fill in the details of the sender.

  • Review them and amend them so that they show the name of the person you want to block, instead of their complete email address.

  • Under Action, click Delete message.

From now on, all messages from that person will be transferred to the trash.

Notes:

  • A similar technique can be used with Mozilla/Netscape Mail and other email clients.

  • Eudora 6.0 introduces a Junk filter into its Paid Mode. Once this is activated (by crossing Qualcomm's palm with the required amount of silver), you have full anti-spam (unwanted email) facilities at your disposal. To block a sender, just right-click on the message and choose Junk. Well worth the price if you get a lot of junk email, as too many of us do these days.
